Stress Alvaro

In 2016, around June/July, during the meeting after the priest’s class they agreed to go to the intercession of Don Alvaro. They called this initiative “Stress Alvaro”. They decided to say a prayer card to Don Alvaro every day at 8.00 a.m. followed by a Memorare.

I was helping an elderly friend to apply for an official document in a government office. Since I had applied the week before, it should not have been a problem. However, since my friend was to travel that very evening, and would therefore not be in a position to retrieve his document, it was important to ensure that I would be the one to collect it when it was ready. Tekeleza Leadership Program: Creating Teen Leaders

Tekeleza is a Kiswahili word that means ‘to achieve’. The program, under Kianda Foundation, has been running for two years and has seen over 200 teenagers go through it. It aims at helping young girls understand themselves, lead themselves and influence others in order to create positive change in the world. The program has been run in Nairobi, Kisumu and Kitui.

The launch of the biography of Tomas and Paquita Alvira, ‘Our lives in His Hands: An Ordinary Couple’s Path to Holiness, took place at Strathmore University. The book is a recollection of the life and adventures of the couple who raised a large family and had joys and struggles that contemporary couples can identify with.

On 17th January 1906 Tomás Alvira was born in Villanueva de Gállego, the village of his father and grandfather, a few kilometres from Saragossa. His daughter, Pilar, recalls that it was her father’s habit to celebrate his birthday not for himself, but for the enjoyment of the whole family, a simple party full of joy.
