Plaque commemorates St Josemaria's visit

On Tuesday 18 August 1959, St Josemaría Escrivá visited the town of Cahir in County Tipperary during his only stay in Ireland. On that same day fifty years later, a ceremony took place in the town square.

Last week, Mr Liam Ahern, South Tipperary County Chairman, unveiled a bronze plaque at Cahir town library to commemorate the 50th anniversary of a visit by Saint Josemaría Escrivá, founder of Opus Dei, to the town. 

Mr Pat Meagher, Chairperson of the Cahir Commemorative Committee, said: From the very beginning this initiative has received wonderful support from all. The local councillors have given it their unanimous backing. 

The plaque was created by Dublin artist Dony MacManus, who is now based in Florence, Italy.
