Safe Environment

Following the directives of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), the Prelature of Opus Dei in Canada has adopted a number of measures to ensure the protection of children and young people.

Following the indications given for dioceses in Canada in Orientations issued by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops for updating a diocesan protocol for the prevention of the sexual abuse of minors and the pastoral response to complaints regarding abuse, the Prelature of Opus Dei in Canada has adopted guidelines for those who, in the moment an allegation is made, are faithful of the Prelature (priests, deacons or laity), if the accusations concern actions carried out while they were fulfilling, under the authority of the Regional Vicar an apostolic activity of the Prelature in which Christian formation or spiritual guidance is imparted involving minors.

Also, in accord with the aforementioned document of the CCCB, the Prelature in Canada has approved a policy for dealing with allegations of sexual abuse of minors and has established a review board to study any such cases.

To report an instance of sexual abuse of a minor by personnel of the Prelature, please contact the Child Protection Coordinator at (514) 441-8397.
