What is the mission of the prelature of Opus Dei? What is special about this mission that is not found in other Church entities?

The mission of the prelature of Opus Dei is the same salvific mission as that of the whole Church, carried out in conformity with a specific charism of sanctification and apostolate in professional work and in the context of ordinary life.

The mission of the prelature of Opus Dei is the same salvific mission as that of the whole Church, carried out in conformity with a specific charism of sanctification and apostolate in professional work and in the context of ordinary life. The special feature of that charism and that mission, as is the case with any charism, comes from the nature of God’s gift, first to St. Josemaría as founder, and then to his spiritual daughters and sons, and also to all who take part in its apostolates. The fact that this charism gave rise to a prelature is not the result of a decision based simply on reasons of suitability, but stems from the very reality of the charism, which necessarily entails the setting up of a hierarchically structured community of faithful.
