She makes burdens lighter

Since 2016 Strathmore University has marked Founder’s Week in the first week of October every year. That coincides with the commemoration with the founding of Opus Dei on October 2, 1928 and the canonization of St. Josemaría on October 6, 2002.

In 2019 the theme was “Called to Greatness: The Virtue of Magnanimity”, a virtue that St. Josemaría encouraged people to acquire. There were, among other things, speeches about this virtue, a Eucharistic procession and a Magnanimity challenge championed by the Student Council that gave ideas to students on how to be magnanimous, more kind and accommodating to others in different areas.

Josephine, one of Strathmore University‘s security team members, was unanimously voted by the students as the most magnanimous person in Strathmore University. She checks the students, mostly female ones, when they enter the University. She got more votes than any lecturer, mentor or staff member. Josephine lights up the University with her constant smile and warm greetings. When asked about the award she said that she smiles because she loves her job. “Perhaps people come to the university bearing some burdens and I smile and greet them to make their burdens look lighter.”
