Monsignor Bohlin was born on Aug. 3, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up in northern New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a doctorate in history from the University of Notre Dame. He also earned a doctorate in moral theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome.
Monsignor Bohlin was ordained a priest for the Prelature of Opus Dei in 1997. From 1998 until 2002 he worked with the Prelate, Bishop Javier Echevarría, at Opus Dei’s world headquarters in Rome as Chancellor of Opus Dei. He was the Vicar of Opus Dei in the United States from 2002 to 2022, when he was succeeded by Father Javier del Castillo, who in 2024 became Vicar of the newly formed Region of the United States and Canada. In 2025 Father del Castillo was appointed Vicar General of Opus Dei, and Monsignor Bohlin became Vicar of Opus Dei in the United States and Canada.
