Friday's Gospel: Rich Because of His Look of Love

Gospel for Friday in the 24th Week of Ordinary Time, and commentary.

Gospel (Lk 8:1-3)

Soon afterward Jesus went on through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.

Commentary

The Twelve and some women are accompanying our Lord as He goes from town to town announcing the Good News of the Kingdom of God. God is in love with his creation and with each and every person in this world.

And He continues being close to us, every minute of our lives. We who are so poor and filled with wretchedness, but have been healed by Jesus’ merciful hands, protected by his loving look, encouraged by his friendly voice.

And therefore we are also rich and filled with glory, with the riches and glory of the Son of God. And Christ carries out the redemption through our work, our talents and virtues, our dreams and projects, our family and friends.

The example of this group of faithful women, who serve Jesus with their own possession, who will not leave Him alone at the worst moments, are a call for us to be faithful.

And therefor we are eager to serve God and other men and women generously, with supernatural outlook: serving even those who aren’t grateful for the service we provide. For we realize that each sign of affection shown towards others is a service to Christ; through our service He enters into the hearts of those alongside us.
