As of mid-October a street in the city of Terrasini in Sicily goes by the name of Blessed Josemaria Escriva. For more than 30 years it has hosted both a large conference center and hospitality institute. The prelature Opus Dei, founded by Escriva, vouches for the spiritual help and Christian training imparted in both.
The dedication ceremony attracted some hundred people, including local and church authorities. Blessed Josemaria's profile was summed up by one speaker as a man who “loved and worked.” More than 1,000 women have been trained in the domestic arts at the institute, remarked another.
Catania's archbishop, Luigi Bommarito, originally from Terrasini, blessed the street sign, calling it an honor to have a street so named. Terrasini is the fourth Italian city, after Rome, Bari and Palermo, to dedicate a street to Opus Dei's founder.
