This is the second book by Saint Josemaría Escrivá (after “The Way”) to be placed in its full historical context. “It is a book,” some have said, “that the heart grasps immediately.”

Without love, life wouldn’t be worth living. Therefore St. Josemaría counseled: “Fall madly in love,” both when our love is in heaven and when it’s on earth (0’58”).

Those who care for the sick have an opportunity to live charity and to exercise patience.

“When you leave,” St. Josemaría was once asked,” what do you want to leave in our hearts.” He quickly replied: “That you be brothers and sisters to all creatures: sowers of peace and joy” (1:10).

In order to love someone, we have to get to know them, converse with them, laugh and suffer with them. And this is what we need to do with Jesus Christ. St. Josemaría told him: “I believe in you, I hope in you, I love you, I long to be your friend…” (2:01)
