On the 5th anniversary of the Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia, Pope Francis announced the celebration of the Amoris Laetitia Family Year from 19 March 2021 to 26 June 2022, which will end with the 10th World Meeting of Families in Rome. As we come to the close of this year, in this Newsletter we highlight some essential points on the family from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and from the teachings of Saint Josemaría.

Saint Josemaría Escrivá often expressed his affection and gratitude for the family in which he was born in the Aragonese city of Barbastro, Spain. “God our Lord disposed things in such a way that my early life was quite normal and ordinary and in no way exceptional. He caused me to be born into a Catholic family, like most people in my country, with exemplary parents who practised their faith in daily life” (Saint Josemaría Escrivá, 14 February 1964).
“The pure and noble love of spouses is something holy which I, as a priest, bless with both hands. […] Our Lord sanctifies and blesses the husband’s love for his wife and the wife’s for her husband” (Saint Josemaría Escrivá, Christ is Passing By, 24).
