Recovery from a Work Accident

I was in an accident and it looked like I might not be able to return to ordinary life. So, I asked Guadalupe Ortiz de Landázuri for help.

I am an engineer by profession. I have dedicated a large part of my professional life to the public service of potable water in a small city in the North East of Mexico, a semi-desert area where water supply is low.

At the end of April this year, I had an accident at work, resulting in many fractures in my hands and spine. After many surgeries, the prognosis did not favor a return to ordinary life.

At the end of April this year, I had an accident at work, resulting in many fractures in my hands and spine. After many surgeries, the prognosis did not favor a return to ordinary life. One of the first adjustments in my life was the need to stay in bed, without getting up at all, for a month – something unthinkable and impossible for me since I am used to activity – for the injury to heal. Facing such an adjustment, I prepared myself mentally so as to take advantage of the time, which was not difficult. I made a schedule which included more time for reading and prayer.

At around this time, we heard of Lupita Ortiz being declared venerable. I looked at her prayer card, and without thinking much about it, told her “Look Lupita," with the trust of a brother, "by the grace of God you knew Mexico, you are named after our Most Holy Mother of Guadalupe, and, even though we live in different times, I think we share something in common. You need prayers and I need your intercession so that I can return to my work and give peace to my family.” I offered to make a novena in her honour, starting in those first few days of May.

“Look, Lupita, I need your intercession so that I can return to my work and give peace to my family.”

At the end of the month, in a regular checkup, the doctor told me the news that I could return to my work earlier than foreseen. It was a surprise for the doctor and for my work colleagues: my recovery went better than we had hoped. I am thankful for the intervention of Guadalupe before Our Lord God. Her life example, work, and joy accompany me always as a guide and path to God. I am currently able to carry out all my work as before. Thank you as well to a great number of friends and priests for their prayers.
