Here are some highlights from the pastoral visit to Nigeria by the Prelate of Opus Dei, Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz, who was there from July 19 to July 26. Opus Dei began its work in Nigeria in 1965.

Invited by Jesús Sanz Montes, the Archbishop of Oviedo, Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz went on pilgrimage to the shrine of Covadonga to participate in the Marian Jubilee Year of the Coronation of the Virgin. He prayed before the Virgin in the Holy Cave and concelebrated Mass with Archbishop Sanz Montes and Don Adolfo Mariño, abbot of Covadonga.

Ulf and Birgitta have recently embraced the Catholic faith. Last April they met Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz in Stockholm, during the Prelate’s pastoral visit to Sweden.

From May 31st to June 3rd, Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz made a pastoral visit to Sicily. In Palermo, he greeted members of Opus Dei and their friends.

"Prayer is the most powerful weapon we have for building up the Church,” Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz said during his four-day pastoral visit to Stockholm, where he greeted Cardinal Arborelius and met with faithful and friends of the Prelature.

Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz has returned to Rome, after two weeks in Brazil during which he had the opportunity to get to know and speak with many people in the Prelature and their friends, in São Paulo and Río de Janeiro.

During a two day visit to the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz took part in an academic act honoring the former chancellor Bishop Javier Echevarría, and had a get-together with over 3,000 people in the University's sports complex.
