“A faithful and sure synthesis of the Catechism” – Pope Benedict XVI

“A faithful and sure synthesis of the Catechism” – Pope Benedict XVIPublished by the Catholic Truth Society (CTS), this 200 page synthesis of the 1992 Catechism of the Catholic Church has been prepared by the Vatican to promote wide popular access to the teachings and spiritual wisdom of the Church. It is modelled closely on the 1992 Catechism, and echoes the format of the well-known ‘Penny Catechism’.

It consists of 598 questions and answers on the Catholic Faith, in four main sections: the Profession of Faith, Celebration of the Christian Mystery, Life in Christ, and Christian Prayer. It includes an introduction by Pope Benedict XVI, an index for easy searching, a section containing prayers in English and Latin, and 14 beautiful colour illustrations of masterpieces of Christian art.

The Compendium was prepared by a commission headed by Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, who has described it as containing “all the essentials and fundamental elements of the Church’s faith”.

Fergal Martin, General Secretary of the CTS, said: “The Holy Father has entrusted this Compendium to the entire Church, and especially to every Christian, to every family and community, in order to awaken renewed zeal for evangelisation and education in the faith at the start of the new millennium.”
