On Sunday, September 6, Bishop Javier Echevarría ordained two Associate members of Opus Dei in the Sanctuary of Torreciudad.

The Prelate began his homily with these words : "In this Year for Priests desired by Pope Benedict XVI, it is very fitting that the entire Church raise up a constant prayer for priests. We should begin by praying for the Supreme Shepherd, beseechng God ardently for the tireless work he is carrying out."

He asked the new priests to have a great love for Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.. " I remind you of the words that will be spoken when you are handed the paten with the host, and the chalice with the wine. They are words that you have to incorporate into your life, that all of us priests have to incorporate into our daily lives: 'Know what you are doing, and imitate the mystery you celebrate.' I recall very well the many times that St. Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, the Founder of Opus Dei, in his constant prayer would look at his hands and say out loud, or in his heart to God: 'With these hands of mine I can touch God, I can give HIm to others….'

The Associates who have been ordained are:

Diego Pérez Gondar, 34 years old. He was born in Pontevedra and has been a professor in the School of Industrial Engineering in Vigo.

José Ramón Alba Riera, 45 years old. He was born in Barcelona and also studied Industrial Engineering. He has worked as product manager for the automobile company SEAT.
