How Can I Explain My Faith to Others?

Why is there evil in the world? What do we mean by "original sin"? What is the Church's teaching on chastity? Forty brief summaries of key points of Catholic teaching written by professors at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross.

The website is making available 40 brief summaries of the main points of the Church’s teaching written by professors from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome and other theologians.

They can be found by clicking on the section “Growing in Faith” in the left-hand column of the home page and then clicking again on “Summaries of Catholic Teaching.” Five of the first six are now available in English: 1) “The Existence of God”; 2) “Revelation”; 3) “Supernatural Faith”; 5) "The Most Holy Trinity"; 6) Creation.  Several new numbers will be added every month.

Both the content and topics are based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church . Nos. 1-16 consider key points of the Catholic faith, including the Blessed Trinity, creation and original sin, and Jesus Christ, perfect God and perfect Man. Nos. 17-25 look at the sacraments, while nos. 26-38 summarize Christian moral life and the commandments. Finally, nos. 39-40 are on Christian prayer and the Lord’s prayer.

Parents have the primary responsiblity for explaining the faith to their children.

Written in a rigorous but accessible style, they make frequent reference to Sacred Scripture, the Fathers of the Church and the Magisterium.

Reference is also made to the teachings of St. Josemaria, who has helped so many thousands of people to find practical ways to apply the faith to their daily lives.

At the end of each article there is a basic bibliography for those who want to go more deeply into a specific topic.
