3000 Filipinos, including bishops, priests, and civil authorities, were in Rome on October 6, 2002 for the canonization of St. Josemaría Escrivá. 140 youth volunteers from the Philippines helped out attending to the 750,000 pilgrims attending the various activities organized during those days. Aside from the canonization ceremony proper on October 6, there were thanksgiving Masses celebrated for different language groups in the various churches and basilicas in Rome.
