Prelate prays for victims of Christchurch’s earthquake

The Prelate of Opus Dei writes to the Regional Vicar of Opus Dei for Australia and New Zealand, Monsignor Victor Martinez, offering consolation and prayers for victims of the earthquake in Christchurch.

Rome, 22 February 2011

Dearest Victor, may Jesus watch over my daughters and sons in New Zealand!

On receiving the news about the earthquake that affected a part of your country, I wish to send you a few lines to assure you that we from Rome - and from the whole world –,  are devoting our constant attention to ask Saint Josemaría and our most beloved Don Alvaro to continue interceding for you, for your families and for the people of those places, especially for the victims and their relatives.

Following the example of Saint Josemaría, we cannot remain indifferent to the physical or moral suffering of those around us and of those sufferings in other parts of the world. That is why we unite ourselves, with all our hearts, to those who are suffering, and ask our Lord with strength, that they remain serene and full of peace. Consider my daughters and sons that, in these circumstances, we must grow in our sense of divine filiation. Without doing extraordinary things, and if it is within your possibilities, contribute to the aid that is being given.

I offer suffrages and pray to our blessed Mother, Queen of Peace, for those affected, so that they find consolation in their grief and come closer to God.

I love you and I bless you with all my affection,

Your Father,

+Javier
