"Exalted above all creatures"

August 15 is the feast of the Assumption of our Lady, who considered herself the least among the Lord’s poor, and finds herself crowned as Queen and Lady of the whole universe.

"In a few days we will joyfully celebrate the great feast of the Assumption of our Lady. Mary’s life on earth was imbued with naturalness and humility. Though exalted above all creatures, she went unnoticed among the women of her time. Our Lady loved and worked in silence, never drawing the attention of those who knew her. Her only concern was to be attentive to the impulses of the Holy Spirit and to care for souls.

And yet, Mary’s behavior was so attractive and luminous that her fellow townspeople said in speaking of the Master: Is this not the craftsman, the son of Mary? (Mk 6:3). May our actions too make the figure of Jesus familiar to those around us.

Think what a reward God has given to his exalted Mother who is our Mother too. She who called herself the handmaid of the Lord (Lk 1:38), is exalted above all other creatures, in heaven and on earth. She who considered herself the least among the Lord’s poor, finds herself crowned as Queen and Lady of the whole universe . . . .

Let us always look towards our Mother. Let us ask our Lady that, like her, we too may aspire only to the eternal reward, which God will grant us if we remain faithful to his service, day after day, without claiming any human rewards or earthly glory." (Letter, 1 August 1989)
