Twenty-five years after it opened its doors, Whitesands School Lekki has placed its boys under the mantle of Our Lady with the blessing of a new Marian grotto by the Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Adewale Martins.

Javier Cotelo (Madrid, 1932) passed away in Rome in the early hours of 10 October 2026, at the age of 94. A numerary of Opus Dei, he knew St. Josemaría closely, accompanying him as his driver and working for many years as an architect. He was a simple, good-humoured man with great affection for others. His remains rest in the crypt of the prelatic church of Our Lady of Peace.

The Prelate is suggesting that the faithful and friends of Opus Dei pray for this intention in a special way from 2 October 2026 to 2 October 2027.

Prof. Albert Alos died in Lagos on 5 September 2026, at the age of 86. Born in Barcelona, he was one of the first numeraries to bring Opus Dei to Nigeria, and he spent the next fifty-nine years there, quietly living out that vocation through a long career in education.

From 22 to 27 August 2026, Msgr. Fernando Ocáriz was in Uruguay, just a few months before the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the first members of Opus Dei in the country.
