Christian prayer in two free e-books, explained by Popes Francis and Benedict XVI

St. Josemaría insisted on the need for Christians to turn to prayer in order to know Jesus Christ better and to make him known. And both Benedict XVI and Francis have devoted cycles of audiences to prayer, which we now bring together in two free e-books. They can be very helpful during this Year of Prayer in preparation for the Jubilee.

38 interventions, between May 2020 and June 2021, in which he wanted to emphasise that “we are already welcomed into Jesus’ dialogue with the Father, in communion of the Holy Spirit. We were willed by Christ Jesus, and even in the hour of his passion, death and resurrection, everything was offered for us. And so, with prayer and with life, all that remains is only to have courage and hope, and, with this courage and hope, to deeply feel Jesus’ prayer and to keep on going: so that our life may be one of giving glory to God in the knowledge that he prays for me to the Father, that Jesus prays for me” (Catechesis no. 38).

School of prayer. Benedict XVI

The texts of the catecheses that Pope Benedict XVI gave during almost a year and a half in the Wednesday audiences, from May 2011 to October 2012, are collected together. There are 45 addresses in total, which constitute a complete cycle dedicated to prayer, or rather, to teaching how to pray.
