Whoever truly knows himself to be a son “discovers” that he is also a brother: feeling that warm embrace of God, he is able in turn to offer others a fatherly and brotherly embrace.
The Prelate is suggesting that the faithful and friends of Opus Dei pray for this intention in a special way from 2 October 2026 to 2 October 2027.
In this pastoral letter, Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz invites us to reflect more deeply on the call to be contemplatives in the midst of the world, in light of the life of Jesus and the example of St. Josemaría, in preparation for the centenary of the Work.
A new website to help you prepare for the centenary of Opus Dei, bringing together everything related to the celebration in one place: core materials, resources for your spiritual life, stories from around the world, and updates on what's being planned in your own country.
Opus Dei was born on October 2, 1928, while St. Josemaría was making a retreat at the Vincentian Fathers' house in Madrid: St. Vincent de Paul had a great impact on St. Josemaría from his childhood to the very day he saw Opus Dei. As the Work journeys toward its first centenary, we look back on these encounters as one more reason to give thanks for the saints who have walked alongside it in history.
The Prelate sends his greeting on the occasion of October 2 and invites us to begin the first year of preparation for the centenary with gratitude to God and to St. Josemaría, and with the desire to be contemplatives in the middle of the world.
