Service Projects from Australia

Centres of Opus Dei conduct social projects with young Australians locally and internationally. Below are a series of articles about the various projects.

Philippines Service Project
University students from Sydney and Brisbane spent part of their summer in the town of Clarin on the Philippine island of Bohol. During their stay they helped alleviate structural and educational damage resulting from a recent earthquake.

Faith and Freedom in Vietnam
Four decades after the Communist suppression of the Catholic Church, Xavier Symons travelled with 14 high school boys to Vietnam on a service project. The boys all attend Nairana Study Centre, a centre of Opus Dei in Sydney.

Australian and New Zealand students refurbish school in Fiji
In July 2006 a team of young men from Australia and New Zealand travelled to the Fijian village of Navunibitu to carry out urgent maintenance and painting in a school. The project was an annual “workcamp” organized by Warrane College. The pastoral care of Warrane College, a university residence of UNSW, is entrusted to Opus Dei.

Dubbo Service Project
For the fourth year in a row, Creston College’s service project allowed twenty students from the Universities of New South Wales, Sydney and Technology the opportunity to touch some hearts – both young and old – in the western NSW town of Dubbo.
