The Regional Centenary Committee begins its work in the Caribbean

The Committee’s mission is to promote initiatives for the centenary of Opus Dei, inspired by the conclusions of the 2024 Regional Assemblies, with the aim of serving each person, the Church, and society more effectively in the light of St. Josemaría’s teachings.

On October 2, 2028, Opus Dei will celebrate the centenary of the day when St. Josemaría received the light to found the Work. The commemorative period will continue until February 14, 2030, the anniversary of the founding of the women’s section. This milestone is envisioned as a time of interior renewal, reflection, and apostolic outreach, inviting the faithful of Opus Dei, cooperators, and friends to renew their enthusiasm for the mission entrusted to them. With this purpose in mind, a Regional Centenary Committee has been established in the Caribbean Region.

A Representative and Complementary Committee

The Centenary Committee is made up of thirteen members from Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, bringing together a variety of professional backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. This diversity reflects a commitment to fostering dialogue and enriching discussions, helping to ensure that the proposals developed have a meaningful impact on people, families, and local communities.

The members of the Committee work in collaboration with the regional governing bodies. During the initial phase, they will provide guidance for the strategic planning of the Centenary. Later, they will take on a more operational role, supporting specific initiatives carried forward by broader teams.

Building on the 2024 Regional Assemblies

The Committee’s work continues the path begun during the 2024 Regional Assemblies and draws especially on the many contributions gathered through that process. Three broad themes emerged as priorities: *the Work as a great catechesis, humanizing our environment, and fostering a culture of work*.

The Committee’s first task will be to study and reflect on these priorities in order to adapt them to the cultural and social realities of the Caribbean Region. From this foundation, it will formulate recommendations and propose concrete initiatives aligned with the priorities identified through the listening process.

A Clear Mission and Ambitious Goals

The Committee’s mission is to reflect on and propose ways to prepare for and celebrate this anniversary, which offers an opportunity to revisit St. Josemaría’s legacy, the history of the Work, and its future, in harmony with the guidance of the Prelate and the regional councils.

Its objectives include fostering broad reflection and promoting initiatives throughout the centenary period, renewing enthusiasm for the mission of lay people in the midst of the world, and encouraging both personal and collective initiatives at the local and regional levels. The Committee will also seek to ensure coherence among the various projects and in the overall narrative of the Centenary.

Growing Together

Following an initial phase of reflection, analysis, and planning, the selected initiatives will begin to take shape. This stage will require the collaboration of many people.

Since the Centenary is conceived as a shared journey that draws on the ideas, talents, and commitment of everyone, the Committee hopes to involve as many faithful, cooperators, friends, and people connected with the apostolic activities of the Work as possible in this path toward 2028–2030.

In the coming months, information, proposals, and opportunities for participation will be shared so that everyone can find their place in this spiritual and apostolic adventure.
