Letter from the Prelate (19 August 2026)

On the occasion of his trip to Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, and Uruguay, the Prelate of Opus Dei invites us to reflect on unity and diversity within the Work, seen in the light of charity.

My dear children: may Jesus watch over my daughters and sons for me!

To begin this brief message, I want to thank you for your prayers for my intentions, and, right now, for accompanying me on this trip to Central America and Uruguay.

Our prayer for one another, within the unity of the Church, brings us closer to the impressive degree of unity that our Lord wants for all of us; the very unity of God, "that all may be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you" (Jn 17:21).

Unity of faith, of spirit, of apostolic zeal, blends very well with a great diversity of personalities, interests, and opinions. Just as unity in God is infinite personal Love — the Holy Spirit — so too all the different expressions of unity and diversity are called to be brought to life by charity, by love. Only in this way do even opposing points of view, differing interests, and our personal defects and limitations cease to be causes for division.

I won't dwell any longer on these thoughts, which each of us could develop much further. I would only like to add a few well-known words of Saint Josemaría; I suggest we meditate on them again, to see how we can better put them into practice in our everyday lives: "Charity does not consist so much in 'giving' as in 'understanding'" (The Way, no. 463). Charity, love, will lead us to discover, first of all, the good qualities and virtues of others, so that when we also see the defects we all have, we will see them with affection, with a desire to help.

Your Father blesses you with all his affection.
