Opus Dei

In a gathering with Chilean girls in Santiago, July 7, 1974, St Josemaria Escriva, founder of Opus Dei, talked about the holy women who appear in the Gospel.

St Josemaria recalls the story behind no. 208 in The Way: "Blessed be suffering..." He explains that suffering is not evil but a caress from God.

St. Josemaría tells us that we need to be aware we are a temple for the Blessed Trinity when we walk down the street, or are at work or at home.

During his catechesis in Spain in 1972, St Josemaria spoke of the importance of the Holy Mass and the ministerial priesthood.

St. Josemaría is asked how to take greater advantage of the Mass. The saint reminds us that it is Christ who is acting: “Because Christ hasn’t died, Christ is alive.”

One winter's day, Josemaria went out early and saw some bare footprints in the snow. A friar was walking barefoot to offer a sacrifice to God. This segment is from an animated film on St. Josemaría's early life.

Christmas 1947 was approaching. In a students’ hall of residence in Madrid, Spain, St Josemaria suggested to some young men in Opus Dei to compose or choose some popular carols they could sing in family get-togethers.

In July 1974, Saint Josemaría was in Peru, where he had several informal meetings and get-togethers with people who worked the land there.
