The donkey and young Josemaría

Rete 4, an Italian television station, recently aired an animated program on the early life of St. Josemaría Escrivá. This fragment shows how the young boy comes to understand the value of work by seeing a donkey hard at work (02'03'').

"The saint of the ordinary"

A 7 minute video about the life of Saint Josemaría Escrivá, who spread the call to sanctity in daily life and was called the "saint of the ordinary" by John Paul II. "We have to be contemplative souls in the middle of the world, who strive to turn our work into prayer," he often said.

”What do you want to leave in our hearts?”

“When you leave,” St. Josemaría was once asked,” what do you want to leave in our hearts.” He quickly replied: “That you be brothers and sisters to all creatures: sowers of peace and joy” (1:10).

To be tranquil and serene

Saint Josemaria speaks to a gathering of priests, encouraging them to identify themselves with Christ.

“Lord, I love you”

In order to love someone, we have to get to know them, converse with them, laugh and suffer with them. And this is what we need to do with Jesus Christ. St. Josemaría told him: “I believe in you, I hope in you, I love you, I long to be your friend…” (2:01)
