Opus Dei

For the beatification of Paul VI, the Prelate of Opus Dei has issued a brief statement.

Pope Francis will beatify Paul VI on Sunday October 19. On November 21, 1965, Paul VI officially opened Centro ELIS, a social initiative located in one of Rome's poorest districts. In his address Paul VI said that education and training were the most important way of improving the lives of young unemployed people from poor families.

On October 4, Pope Francis presided over a prayer vigil for the Synod on the Family, and urged couples to be open to the gift of life.

Mary Agbu has 9 children. She was expecting her first child Alvaro when Bishop Alvaro del Portillo came to Nigeria in 1989. She remembers vividly advice the prelate gave her and her husband for the formation of their children. She tells of some special favors received through the intercession of Alvaro del Portillo.

Christine met Bishop Alvaro del Portillo when he came to Nigeria in 1989. She has a vivid memory of that encounter and especially of a work of art Don Alvaro did for her!

In his September 3 General Audience, Pope Francis said that "by looking at Mary, we discover the most beautiful and tender face of the Church." The Church is our Mother who protects us against evil.

On Friday, August 15, Pope Francis celebrated his first public Mass during his 5-day visit to South Korea, in the World Cup Stadium in Daejeon.

Isabel Covarrubias, a teacher from Santiago, Chile, is spending this semester helping out at Kimlea Technical Training Centre in Kenya.

Near Nairobi, Kenya, Kimlea began in 1989 under the encouragement of Bishop Alvaro del Portillo. To date about 12,000 women have benefited, most of them young girls working on the tea and coffee plantations.
