Prof. Neri Picardo, a numerary member of Opus Dei, was a naturalized Nigerian and became an adopted son of Neke-Oghe in Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State. He died of a heart attack on Wednesday 5th February 2025, at the age of 75.

In 2024, the Regional Assemblies of Opus Dei were held, bringing together several thousand people in nearly 70 countries over the course of a year to reflect on the theme "On the Road to the Centenary of the Work."
