On the eighth centenary of St. Francis of Assisi's death, Friar Francesco Ielpo, Custos of the Holy Land, looks at what the St. Francis' poverty and St. Josemaría's teaching on detachment have in common.

There are wounds that often remain invisible and are lived in the deepest solitude. Those experiencing a mental illness usually face, in addition to their own suffering, the weight of stigma and the indifference of those who look the other way. Water is a sacred gift that sustains life. We see a sign of God’s generosity in water. It quenches our thirst and makes the earth fertile. In Baptism, it becomes a symbol of his renewing grace. Taking care of water is also a form of safeguarding life and of recognizing that this resource belongs to everyone, without distinction.

In his 12 August general audience, Pope Leo XIV continued the catechetical cycle on the Second Vatican Council, speaking about the dogmatic constitution “Sacrosanctum Concilium” and the liturgical year.

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him” (Mt 17:5). On Mount Tabor, Peter, James, and John glimpsed the glory that awaits every follower of Christ, a glory meant not to remove them from ordinary life, but to strengthen them for it.

In his August prayer intention, Pope Leo invites us to pray for the evangelization of the city so that the Church might know how to reach out to everyone, offering comfort, community, and the joy of the Gospel in every corner of the city.
