Opus Dei

Opus Dei began in Uganda in 1996. In 2006 Don Javier (the second successor of St. Josemaria) visited the "Pearl of Africa". On Friday 20th December 2019, at 12.45 pm the Father (Monsignor Fernando Ocariz) landed on the same rich soil, the land of the martyrs.

The Father spent Saturday early afternoon with a sizeable group of young men - university students and young professionals - at Tusimba Study Centre for an informal get-together.

In 2016, around June/July, during the meeting after the priest’s class they agreed to go to the intercession of Don Alvaro. They called this initiative “Stress Alvaro”. They decided to say a prayer card to Don Alvaro every day at 8.00 a.m. followed by a Memorare.

As devotion to St. Josemaria spreads around the East African region, more and more people are organising local Masses in his honour especially around his feast day - including the students and teachers at Pearlcrest School of Hospitality and Management in Entebbe (Uganda).

26th June is the liturgical feast of St. Josemaria.
