A group of modern-day explorers went looking for their treasure recently. Neither distance nor sweltering heat could keep 15 Monterrey, Mexico, university students and their five Canadian counterparts from an unforgettable joint project with Nahuatl-speaking indigenous people in the heart of the Eastern Sierra Madre, July 10 to 23, 2005

Iroto Rural Development Centre was started at the beginning of 1986.

The TOT (Training of Trainers) Project began in 2003. University students from Fanusi Study Centre, a corporate apostolic work of Opus Dei, are trained to train rural women to start and run their own micro businesses.

Hang Ah Hillside, a non-profit cultural center located in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown and business district, promotes the well-rounded development of women and girls, with the goal of strengthening their families and enriching their communities.

Kianda Foundation, a non-profit trust established in 1961 to provide education to women in Kenya, has embarked on building an Endowment Fund that will provide education to 350 girls and 500 women in Kenya in perpetuity. Besides providing women with professional preparation, Kianda’s institutions offer programs of spiritual formation, which they have entrusted to Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church.

“To educate a woman is to educate a family” goes the motto of the Centro de Formación Integral para la Mujer (CEFIM), which was established in La Paz, Bolivia, in 1986. CEFIM offers women of limited means a broad-based program of training and education, which qualifies them for jobs and helps them improve their life situation.

Conferral of prizes established in observance of the canonization of Opus Dei’s Founder took place in Rome’s City Hall on November 15, 2004.

Camp Instructor Sarah Helmers of Kitchener Ontario tells of her Tenth Year in the back woods of Ontario where she has spent many an adventurous summer. The Chilawee girls camp was started by two Ottawa mothers in 1994 and has grown ever since.

This past July, a group of girls from a Canadian university residence joined some Mexican students to participate in an international development project in Mexico. Fonteneige, a Montreal residence hall entrusted to Opus Dei, has organized international development projects such as this for over fifteen years.
