Opus Dei

The aim of the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross is to promote the sanctity of the secular clergy according to the spirit and ascetical practice of Opus Dei.

The Priestly Society of the Holy Cross stems from St. Josemaría’s love for diocesan priests and from the foundational event that took place on October 2, 1928, when our Lord made him “see” Opus Dei. The specific origin of the Priestly Society, however, occurred some years later, in 1943.

For Alvaro del Portillo’s centennial year and his upcoming beatification on September 27, texts of his related to the liturgical seasons and important feasts will be offered here. The first is entitled “Lent and apostolate.”

Priests incardinated in various dioceses (and deacons who expressly declare their intention to go on to the priesthood) can ask for admission to the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross as Associates or Supernumeraries.

The program for the beatification includes key events in Madrid and Rome. The beatification ceremony in Madrid will be presided over by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints, Cardinal Angelo Amato.

On February 24, Pope Francis made public a letter to families asking them to pray for the upcoming October meeting of the Synod of Bishops, dedicated to “pastoral challenges to the family in the context of evangelization.”
