Speaking about the Faith with Charity and Clarity

From his years as a youth to his involvement with Opus Dei, the interview with Jack Valero on The Bright Side on CatholicSG Radio features how these experiences shaped life and his work as co-founder of Catholic Voices. This is a thoughtful conversation on faith, leadership, and sharing the Gospel in today's world.

Clarity on its own can hurt, while charity on its own can silence us. Speaking about the faith with both charity and clarity, however, is powerful.

That was one of the key insights shared by Jack Valero in an interview with Andre Ahchak on “The Bright Side” on CatholicSG Radio.

Jack is the press officer at the Information Office of Opus Dei in the United Kingdom and was in Singapore to train a local team and to speak about Catholic Voices, an initiative he co-founded to help Catholics speak about the faith in public.

In the interview, Jack touched briefly on the influence of St John Henry Newman, whose belief that faith is transmitted “heart to heart” through friendship and trust continues to shape the Catholic Voices approach to communication.

The audience is also offered a glimpse into Jack’s personal faith journey in Opus Dei, including the lasting impression made on him as a teenager when he was at a gathering where St Josemaría Escrivá spoke.

Jack ended the conversation by leaving listeners with a practical challenge. Most Catholics will never appear in the media, but all will find themselves asked, at some point, what they believe. The question is not whether to speak, but how. As Jack suggested, the task is to speak with clarity, remain charitable, and never lose sight of the person in front of us.
