Dora del Hoyo Alonso was born in Boca de Huergano (Leon, Spain) on January 11, 1914. She was the first numerary assistant in Opus Dei.

Dora del Hoyo, whose Cause for her Canonization was begun in 2012, always sought after happiness, the deepest happiness that one can find: the happiness of serving others: God, the Church, and all souls, in every moment. Eight years after her death, Bishop Javier Echevarría presided at the opening of the canonical process on the life and virtues of Dora del Hoyo, the first numerary assistant in Opus Dei.

We interviewed Bishop Jose Luis Gutierrez, Postulator of the Cause of Canonization for Dora del Hoyo. He knew Dora personally as well. "Dora's work was to create the warmth of a home for those around her, whom she considered her family."

On October 11, 2011, Bishop Javier Echevarría made public a document calling for those who knew the first numerary assistant in Opus Dei to make known any information relevant to opening her Cause of Canonization.

Dora del Hoyo was born in 1914 in Boca de Huergaro, Spain. She moved to Rome in 1946 to help in the household administration of the first center of Opus Dei in the Italian capital. She is buried in the Crypt of Our Lady of Peace, the church of the Prelature of Opus Dei, located also in Rome.
