Cardinal Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, will ordain into the priesthood Filipino Jose Miguel “Miggy” Marasigan and 19 other faithful of Opus Dei on Saturday, May 24, in the Basilica of St. Eugene in Rome.
Marasigan (31) from Parañaque City, Metro Manila was a student at PAREF Southridge School and finished undergraduate studies in humanities at the University of Asia and the Pacific. He later became a lecturer and mentor in both institutions.
“We're in a special time in the history of the Church, since we have a new Pope,” Marasigan says. “Let's all pray for him and support him in his endeavors. And please pray for me and the other deacons, that we may be good and holy priests.”
Marasigan will be staying in Rome after his ordination to finish his doctoral dissertation in Ecclesiology, delving particularly into the topic of “common priesthood.”
“I think that the doctrine on the common priesthood presents a wide horizon that could help more and more Catholics — clergy, religious and lay people — realize that they are all called to the greatest happiness of being a saint,” Marasigan relates. “It's a doctrine that Pope Francis stressed during his pontificate, as a response to the clericalism present in many parts of the world today.”
Marasigan said that ordination to the priesthood “allows those who are called to be special channels of God's grace for others.”
“Those ordained make Him present in a special way, especially in the Holy Eucharist.”
