​Antoinette Kankindi, Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy at Strathmore University (Kenya) has been awarded the Harambee 2017 Prize for the Promotion and Equality of the African Woman for her project “African Women Leadership”, an initiative aiming at “unveiling the leadership” of women of her continent, “without letting anyone fall behind”.

St. John Eudes Rehabilitation Centre was put up in 2001 by the Catholic diocese of Kitui to cater for street children in Kitui and neighbouring counties. The centre takes in both boys and girls and has an accommodation capacity of 65.

"You visited me in prison"

Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya, has been working with Naivasha Maximum Prison since 2002 under the Strathmore Prison Education Program. Over the years, Strathmore students and staff have visited the prison to donate learning materials and interact with the prisoners through several platforms like the annual football tournament. Strathmore Community Service Centre also sponsors inmates to pursue accountancy courses.

​Eastlands College of Technology (ECT) started as Informal Sector Business Institute (ISBI) in August 2003 in a rental house in Uhuru Estate, Nairobi. It was started with the aim of uplifting the living standards of the youth in the Jua Kali sector and equip them with business skills.

Kimlea Technical Training Centre

Near Nairobi, Kenya, Kimlea began in 1989 under the encouragement of Bishop Alvaro del Portillo. To date about 12,000 women have benefited, most of them young girls working on the tea and coffee plantations.
