A colourful ceremony was held at Strathmore University on Saturday 1 July at 10 a.m. to commemorate the feast of St Josemaria, founder of Opus Dei. The main celebrant at the Mass was Ndingi Mwana a’ Nzeki, Archbishop of Nairobi. Msgr Albert Pampillon, Regional Vicar of Opus Dei in East Africa, Fr Paul Mimbi, Chaplain of Strathmore University, the parish priest of Don Bosco Shrine, Fr George Kocholickal, and several other priests of the Opus Dei Prelature.

In his homily Msgr Pampillon laid emphasis on the priestly prayer of Christ. “Ut omnes unum sint – that all may be one” is also the motto of Strathmore and a motto that every Christian is called to live. This unity must be lived with the Pope and the bishops and it must also be experienced in the way we forgive one another.
Msgr Pampillon reminded the congregation that they should not to be afraid of persecution, citing the launch of a recent book and movie. One way of preparing for the struggle is to do mortification, to make sacrifices.
At the end of the celebration, Archbishop Ndingi thanked Opus Dei for the work the Prelature is carrying out in the Archdiocese. He told them to emulate the example of St Josemaria and other saints of the Catholic Church.
Similar feast day Masses were celebrated in other parishes of Nairobi on 26 June. In Kampala the church was filled to capacity. The main celebrant at the Mass was the Archbishop of Kampala, His Eminence Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala. Among the concelebrants was Fr Anthony Musaala, a priest and award-winning gospel musician. Fr Musaala owes his vocation to the priesthood to Opus Dei and celebrated his 50th birthday on 26th June.
In Mombasa, the Vicar General Msgr Michael Ruwa presided over the feast day celebration of St Josemaria. He was assisted by the parish priest of Holy Ghost Cathedral, Fr John Kamau, and Fr Alphonse Diaz, one of the assisting chaplains at Strathmore University, Nairobi.
