Scott Hahn talks about Bishop Alvaro del Portillo, the Statue of Liberty, and the joy of the faith. Bishop del Portillo is the first successor to Opus Dei's founder, Saint Josemaria Escriva, and was declared "Venerable" by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012.

Opus Dei's work of spiritual formation complements the work of local churches. People who join Opus Dei or attend its activities continue to belong to their local dioceses.

What is a personal prelature?

The seventh commandment forbids unjustly taking or keeping the goods of one’s neighbor and wronging him in any way with respect to his goods.

The second commandment prescribes honoring God's name, while the third requires keeping feast days holy.

The program for the beatification includes key events in Madrid and Rome. The beatification ceremony in Madrid will be presided over by the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints, Cardinal Angelo Amato.

Opus Dei has around 90,000 members, both men and women. 98% are laypeople, most of whom are married. The remaining 2% are priests.
