What do you think of when you think about Lent? Freedom might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but hear us out. These are the three traditional pillars of Lent:
- Penance and purification, which free us from sin and everything that entraps us
- Prayer deepens our relationship with God and helps us cultivate all his gifts, including the gift of freedom
- Almsgiving, or service, means self-giving, and that’s the fullest expression of freedom
We’re inviting you to join us on a journey to life in colour, the life Christ won for us. Every few days, we’ll publish a personal testimony, audio for prayer, an infographic on the deeper meaning of freedom, or an article with practical tips about growing in freedom in specific situations.
Let’s kick the season off with a quick quiz. Which of these descriptions resonates with you today?
⛓️💥 “I feel stuck in habits I can’t break.”
🪞 “I’m tense from the constant effort to be perfect.”
🧭 “I don’t know what to do with my life.”
🧩 “I don’t feel close to God.”
🌏 “I’m focused on myself and my own problems.”
⛓️💥 “I feel stuck in habits I can’t break.”
Scrolling when you want to sleep, gossiping when your friend needs you to listen, comparing yourself to others on social media, comfort eating, procrastinating… You’ve tried willpower and you’ve made resolutions, but it’s not enough on your own, and you’re tired of being a slave to habits that make you less free and less yourself.
The freedom Jesus won for us includes freedom from those chains.

🪞 “I’m tense from the constant effort to be perfect.”
You rewrite texts over and over before you send them. You keep replaying conversations and thinking about what you should have said. You volunteer for everything because saying no feels like a failure. You’re always wondering what other people think of you and whether you’re good enough.
Freedom comes from experiencing and trusting God’s unconditional love. He loves you as you are, not as you think you should be.

One thing is for sure: God’s plan for you is one of love, and love is free.

🧩 “I don’t feel close to God.”
Prayer feels like talking to a wall, and you’re going through the motions at Mass. Maybe you used to feel something, but now it's gone cold. Or maybe you’ve never really felt God’s presence and you're starting to wonder if there’s something wrong with you. Everyone else seems to have this relationship with God, but for you, it feels distant, theoretical, empty.
Freedom is a gift, not a prize. You build a relationship with God little by little, and you don’t have to prove anything.

🌏 “I’m focused on myself and my own problems.”
You see people in need and you feel guilty that you don’t care more. You know you should be more generous, and you want to be more present to others, but you’re so caught up in your own worries and ambitions that it feels like there’s no room left for anything else.
Service lets us out of the prison of our own “little world” and into the adventure of God’s world.
