The process planned for the election and appointment of the prelate of Opus Dei will begin in Rome on January 21.

Nicola Waite, a member of Opus Dei's Central Advisory in Rome, shares some memories of her time working with Bishop Javier Echevarria. "You could see as he talked that he was in constant conversation with God – you felt like he was talking to God, and encouraged you to do the same. And as somebody who was new to this whole world of the Catholic faith, that was very attractive. It was something that I felt...I want that!"

Bishop Javier Echevarria, the Prelate of Opus Dei, passed away at 9:20 p.m. Rome time, on December 12th, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The mortal remains of Bishop Javier Echevarría were brought this morning to Our Lady of Peace, the Prelatic church of Opus Dei. A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, December 15th, at 7 pm, in Saint Eugene's basilica.

On November 8 in Rome, the Prelate of Opus Dei conferred diaconal ordination on 32 faithful of the Prelature. In his homily he urged them to be "untiring in self-giving, vigilant in prayer, warm and welcoming in service."

In Moscow's Cathedral, Bishop Javier Echevarría and the Archbishop of Moscow, Paul Pezzi, celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass for the beatification of Alvaro del Portillo.
