Love for the Church and the Pope is the hallmark of every Christian. It was present in the daily life of Tomás and Paquita. Their children bear witness to the strength and naturalness with which they passed their love for the Pope on to them.

The essence of the Gospel message leads to a joy is inseparable from holiness. St. Josemaría lived and taught others to live the struggle for holiness joyfully. His constant affirmation was that Christian homes should always be bright and cheerful. Paquita and Tomas were able to reflect this spirit faithfully.

In his 12 October general audience, Pope Francis continued his cycle of catechesis on spiritual discernment, speaking about desire.

“Our feelings need to be formed, to mature, to learn; they tell us the truth about ourselves and about our relationships. We need to make this aspect of our being an integral part of our response to God, in order to be able to make decisions that involve our life in time.”

The ninth and tenth commandments refer to internal acts corresponding to sins against the sixth and seventh commandments. Internal sins can deform the conscience. The struggle against internal sins is part of the Christian’s endeavour to love with all one’s heart, mind and strength. Purity of heart means having a holy way of feeling.

No one, under any circumstance, can claim the right to directly kill an innocent human being. The fifth commandment also forbids striking, wounding or doing any unjust bodily harm to oneself or to one’s neighbours, as well as offending them with insulting words or wishing them harm. As regards abortion and euthanasia, respect for life should be a boundary line that no individual or state can violate.

The fourth commandment is a connecting point between the previous three and the six subsequent one: family relationships reveal the mysterious interpenetration between divine and human love that is at the origin of each person. Parents have the responsibility to create a home, a family space where love, forgiveness, respect, fidelity and selfless service can be lived.
