Blessed Trinity

Antiphon. Glory be to You, equal Trinity, one Godhead, before all time, now and forever. (Easter Time. Alleluia).

Athanasian Creed

1. Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the Catholic faith.

2. Which faith except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly.

3. And the Catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity.

4. Neither confounding the Persons, nor dividing the Substance.

5. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Spirit.

6. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is all One, the Glory Equal, the Majesty Co-Eternal.

7. Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit.

8. The Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Spirit uncreated.

9. The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Spirit incomprehensible.

10. The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal.

11. And yet they are not three eternals but one eternal.

12. As also there are not three uncreated, nor three incomprehensible, but one uncreated, and one incomprehensible.

13. So likewise the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, and the Holy Spirit almighty.

14. And yet they are not three almighties but one almighty.

15. So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God.

16. And yet they are not three Gods, but one God.

17. So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Spirit Lord.

18. And yet not they are not three Lords but one Lord.

19. For, like as we are compelled by Christian verity to acknowledge every Person by Himself to be God and Lord, so are we forbidden by the Catholic religion to say, there are three Gods or three Lords.

20. The Father is made of none, neither created, nor begotten.

21. The Son is of the Father alone; not made, nor created, but begotten.

22. The Holy Spirit is of the Father, and of the Son; neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding.

23. So there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy Spirits.

24. And in this Trinity none is afore or after another; none is greater or less than another, but the whole three Persons are coeternal together and coequal.

25. So that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity, and the Trinity in Unity, is to be worshipped.

26. He therefore that will be saved, must thus think of the Trinity.

27. Furthermore, it is necessary to everlasting salvation, that he also believe rightly the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ.

28. For the right faith is that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and Man.

29. God, of the substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and Man, of the substance of his mother, born into the world.

30. Perfect God and Perfect Man, of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting.

31. Equal to the Father as touching his Godhead, and inferior to the Father as touching his manhood.

32. Who, although He is God and man, yet He is not two, but one Christ.

33. One, not by conversion of the Godhead into flesh, but by taking of the manhood into God.

34. One altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of Person.

35. For as the reasonable soul and flesh is one man, so God and Man is one Christ.

36. Who suffered for our salvation, descended into Hell, rose again the third day from the dead.

37. He ascended into Heaven, He sits on the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

38. At whose coming all men shall rise again with their bodies, and shall give account for their own works.

39. And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting, and they that have done evil into everlasting fire.

40. This is the Catholic faith, which except a man believe faithfully and firmly, he cannot be saved.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Almighty, ever-living God, who have permitted us, your servants, in our profession of the true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of that majesty to adore the Unity, grant that, by steadfastness in this same faith, we may be ever guarded against all adversity. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

You are God: we praise You; You are God: we acclaim You;

You are the eternal Father: all creation worships You.

To You all angels, all the powers of heaven, Cherubim and Seraphim, sing in endless praise:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord, God of power and might,

Heaven and earth are full of your glory.

The glorious company of apostles praise You. The noble fellowship of prophets praise You. The white-robed army of martyrs praise You.

Throughout the world the holy Church acclaims You:

Father, of majesty unbounded, your true and only Son, worthy of all worship, and the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide.

You, Christ, are the king of glory, the eternal Son of the Father.

When You became man to set us free, you did not spurn the Virgin’s womb.

You overcame the sting of death, and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.

You are seated at God’s right hand in glory.

We believe that You will come, and be our judge.

The following verse is said kneeling:

Come then, Lord, and help your people, bought with the price of your own blood,

And bring us with your saints to glory everlasting.

Save your people, Lord, and bless your inheritance.

Govern and uphold them now and always.

Day by day we bless you. We praise your name forever.

Keep us today, Lord, from all sin.

Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy.

Lord, show us your love and mercy; for we put our trust in You.

In You, Lord, is our hope: and we shall never hope in vain.

. Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers.

. And worthy to be praised and glorified forever.

O God, your mercy is boundless and the treasure of your goodness is in finite: we give thanks to your most gracious majesty for the gifts You have bestowed upon us, constantly imploring your mercy; that, as You grant the petitions of those that ask You, You may never forsake them, but may prepare them for the rewards to come.

O God, who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit: grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise; and ever rejoice in his consolation.

O God, You do not allow anyone who hopes in You to be overly afflicted, but kindly listen to their prayers: we thank You for having heard our prayers and granted our desires, and devoutly entreat You that what we have received may make us worthy to be delivered from all evil.

Through Christ our Lord.

first decade

The decade below is recited three times, one for each member of the Trinity. Everyone recites the Holy God together, and then the priest (or the person leading the prayers) leads the Our Father, followed by the verses, which are repeated nine times. The leader says To Thee... and everyone responds Holy... with the Glory Be at the end of the decade.

Holy God! Holy Strong One! Holy Immortal One, have mercy upon us.

Our Father.

. To Thee, O Blessed Trinity, be praise, and honour, and thanksgiving, for ever and ever!

. Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of hosts. Heaven and earth are filled with thy glory.

. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

. As it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever. Amen.

The other two decades are prayed the same way, beginning with the words Holy God.

After the last decade, all say:

God the Father unbegotten, only-begotten Son, and Holy Spirit, the Comforter; holy and undivided Trinity, with all our heart and voice we acknowledge Thee, we praise Thee, and we bless Thee: Glory to Thee forever.
