What is a plenary indulgence?
Imagine your soul as a notebook filled with messy notes and mistakes. A plenary indulgence is like a huge spiritual reset: it helps erase those marks and so you can start over with a clean sheet. During the Jubilee of Hope in 2025, the Church offers you the opportunity to receive this spiritual gift through simple yet meaningful actions.
It’s like when you’ve been sick: you may have recovered from the illness, but you still need to regain your strength.
How can you obtain the indulgence?
Here are some key steps:
✔ Make a pilgrimage: Visit a designated Jubilee sanctuary or cathedral, attend Mass, pray the Rosary, or participate in the Stations of the Cross.
✔ Confession and Communion: Before or after your pilgrimage, confess your sins and receive the Eucharist.
✔ Pray for the Pope’s intentions: Offer prayers for global causes such as peace and unity.
✔ Completely reject sin: It’s not enough to simply repent. You must also commit to growing in holiness.
Other ways to obtain an indulgence
If you can’t travel, you can still participate the Jubilee:
🌟 Perform works of mercy: Help those in need, support a friend going through a tough time, or donate to a charitable cause.
📖 Deepen your faith: Participate in a retreat or study the teachings of the Church.
🚫 Make a sacrifice for others: For instance, cut back on social media time and use it to help someone instead.
The Jubilee is more than just an event: it’s an opportunity to reconnect with God and with yourself. It’s a chance to draw closer to God, renew hope, and show love for others through concrete actions.
