“I would like to remind you that on 14 May, believers of every religion are invited to unite themselves spiritually in a day of prayer, fasting and works of charity, to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus.”
Pope Francis sent this reminder via Twitter, indicating his support for the proposal of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity that believers of all religions unite spiritually in a day of prayer and fasting on May 14, in order to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus. The prelate of Opus Dei has also encouraged taking part in this initiative.

The Higher Committee of Human Fraternity is made up of religious leaders who are inspired by the historic Abu Dhabi document signed last year by Pope Francis and the great Imam of A-Azhar, Al-Tayyeb. On 2 May 2020, this committee published a message entitled "Prayer for Humanity" in which they invite all believers to turn to God through prayer and supplication, each from his place and according to his religion or belief, to request the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Along with the affirmation of our belief in the importance of the role of medicine and scientific research in the treatment of this pandemic, we do not forget to turn to God, the Creator, during this great crisis."
Prayer and Supplication to End the Pandemic
The High Committee invites “all religious leaders and peoples around the world to respond to this call for humanity and together beseech God Almighty to safeguard the entire world, to help us overcome this pandemic, to restore security, stability, healthiness, and prosperity, so that, after this pandemic is over, our world will become a better place for humanity and fraternity than ever before.”
For this reason, the Holy Father has invited the faithful to take part in the a day of prayer and supplication for humanity this Thursday, 14 May.
