Heaven in Daily Statements - Episode 2
Episode 2 The Morning Offering After the first heroic minute of the day comes the morning offering. It is like a ship’s captain checking his maps before sailing out to sea. The morning offering is like saying, “Good morning, Dad!” to God our Father and telling him that we wish to dedicate that whole day to loving him, because he “has loved us first” (1 John 4:19), “with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3). There is no fixed formula for the morning offering. St Josemaría offered himself to our Holy Mother and devote his heart to serve the Lord to set the tone for the whole day. One might also use the traditional morning offering to the Sacred Heart of Jesus written by the Jesuit Fr Francois-Xavier Gautrelet. In the morning offering, we offer our day to God, we consecrate it and ask God to make it Holy, it is not only for ourselves but also for the sake of the others. “For them do I sanctify myself” (John 17:19). St John Marie Vianney explains, “All that we do without offering it to God is a waste.” So, holiness starts in the first moment of the morning.
