Opus Dei

In 1975, Alvaro del Portillo succeeded St. Josemaría Escrivá as head of Opus Dei, carrying on his work with fidelity and dedication.

The Prelate guides Opus Dei’s mission of spreading the universal call to sanctity and spurs forward the apostolic efforts of the Prelature’s faithful.

Opus Dei was founded in 1928 in Spain and is currently established in 66 countries.

On July 5, 2013, Pope Francis signed the decree recognizing the miracle attributed to the intercession of Alvaro del Portillo, which opens the way to his beatification.

Montse Grases was a girl who sensed God's call right from her youth, to serve Him in ordinary life. She spread to her friends and relatives the peace that comes from being close to God, while bearing a painful illness that eventually led to her death.

On October 6, 2002, Pope John Paul II canonized Josemaría Escrivá, calling him "the saint of the ordinary" and describing his teachings as "timely and urgent today."
