Celebrating the “saint of the ordinary” in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao

After two years of pandemic lockdown, devotees nationwide organized onsite Masses this year to celebrate the feast day of St. Josemaria.

In the last two years of pandemic, Masses on the feast of Saint Josemaria were celebrated with very limited persons in attendance. This year, devotees nationwide have once more organized onsite Masses in various venues.

We interviewed some of the organizers and obtained the following:

"I am very grateful to St. Josemaria for the spiritual formation I have received, and the consequent cultural and social development that is encouraged. I am helping spread the devotion to him from Batanes down to Gen. Santos City in the hope that someday soon the saint of the ordinary will be known all over the archipelago.

I want to give thanks for all his powerful intercessions. More importantly, I want St Josemaria and his teachings be known to many people here in Isabela, which is “everyone is called to holiness even doing ordinary things.”
Gina Macaraeg, MD
Radiologist, Isabela, Cagayan

"I am thankful for the guidance he has given me through his writings along with many favors and lifelong friends. I come from an ethnically Chinese family, so I have this zeal to let other people know who St. Josemaría is, particularly those who share the same background as I do."
Justin Tembresa
Business management student, Manila

"I like to attend the Mass of St. Josemaria because it reminds me of the saint who was able to explain the faith and its teachings with such simplicity and sincerity."
JM Lejano
Architecture student, Manila

He inspires me to strive for holiness in my everyday life as a teacher and a philosophy PhD student. I have many petitions which were answered so quickly, most notable is when I was looking for a job.

We want his devotion to spread to encourage more people to do things to the best they can for God - here and now! What a blessing to know that our goal of holiness is within our reach in our ordinary everyday circumstances! And that is why St Josemaria is there to inspire everyone to the path of holiness.

Retired business executive & homemaker, Muntinlupa City

It began with a friend handing me a prayer card when I was in the university, along with the invitation to “do ordinary things, extraordinarily well”. His intercession has never failed me when it came to petitions especially for work and relationships. We are blessed to have him as a saint in this modern times.

I attribute my conversion to St. Josemaria Escriva, who interceded fervently for torrents of graces to come my way. By a tremendous influx of graces and prayers, my profession of faith, first communion and confirmation all took place in less than a month.

When faced with a difficult situation, I would often think of how St Josemaria would respond in a similar situation. The teaching of St Josemaria, to strive to be a saint in the daily circumstances of our life, is something worth sharing with everyone.

Human Resources professional, Quezon City

St. Josemaria's love for our Lady and the Holy Mass made me develop a great devotion to him. Through his works and teachings, I continue to grow more in love with Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and His Mother, who is also our Mother.
Elsie Erika C. Abes
MS Student, UP Los Baños

I have a personal devotion to St. Josemaria because God grants my petitions through his intercession. I memorized already the prayer because I pray the prayer in the card of St. Josemaria every day. I also want other people to know him.

The parishes in all six towns in *Marinduque* have a picture of St. Josemaria in their churches. Lately one priest asked for a replacement of the picture that was damaged by a typhoon. When June 26 approaches the parish priests know it's an important event. Some priests organize a novena and a procession. One has organized two Masses on the same day: one for the parish and the other for the barangay.

St. Josemaria Escriva's message of finding the Lord in ordinary everyday life should be discovered by the millennials.

Every day upon waking up and before sleeping, I talk to St. Josemaria, asking his help for me to carry out my obligations with love and with presence of God specially in my studies... As St. Josemaria says "for a student, an hour of study is an hour of prayer".
Christopher Castiva
Working student, Iloilo

I am always praying thru his intercession, especially for my work in the farm, asking St. Josemaria to help me to love and sanctify my work every day.

Every morning, I pray to St. Josemaria asking him to help me and my two sons because my husband died last year. And since then, St. Josemaria always listens to me. Thank you St. Josemaria

I want people to know and love his message "Sanctity in the middle of the world,” simple yet profound. People can relate and connect with his message because he is the Saint of the Ordinary!

I am grateful to St. Josemaria Escriva for looking after our family all these years, especially when Typhoon Odette hit us hard a few days before Christmas 2021. Even if our roof was blown away by the typhoon, he helped keep our family members safe from harm. I always go to his intercession since I received his prayer card from a friend who now resides in Davao.
