Among the bishops celebrating Masses for the feast of Saint Josemaria in East Africa this year are Archbishop Emeritus Augustine Kasujja, Bishop Silas Mugambi of Meru, Bishop Dominic Kimengich of Eldoret, Bishop Joseph Mwongela of Kitui.

The Diocese of Nakuru began a wonderful tradition to celebrate the feast of St. Josemaria annually since 2014.

For more than 10 years now, members of Opus Dei have been making regular trips to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to give means of formation to interested university students and professionals, young and old, men and women. On Saturday 10th June 2017, a public Mass in honour of St. Josemaria was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Gerald Wabukenda at St. Peter's Oyster Bay Church.

58 years after those first members of Opus Dei arrived at the port of Mombasa, the message of St. Josemaria has spread to more than 13 cities and towns in East Africa including Kigali in Rwanda, Kampala in Uganda and Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Here are some snippets on the various public Masses that were celebrated in these different cities on the feast of St. Josemaria.

The feast day of St. Josemaria was celebrated for the first time in Lusaka (Zambia) with a Mass celebrated by the nuncio, Archbishop Julio Murat, on 30th June 2015. There were other masses in other East African capitals including Dar es Salam (Tanzania) on 27 June and Kampala (Uganda) on 26 June.

Masses will be celebrated in honour of St. Josemaria around the 26 of June, his liturgical feast day. The schedule below is for the masses that will be celebrated in East African cities.

In Kampala on 23rd June, Bishop Ssekamanya of Lugazi, who presided over a Mass in honour of St Josemaria, said that he remembers seeing St. Josemaria in Rome when he was still alive.
