Annie Sioui passes away at the age of 94

First Canadian woman to join Opus Dei in1959 dies February 2, 2016 in Montréal.

A Huron from l’Ancienne Lorette and a Quebecer, Annie was proud of her Amerindian roots. She showed this in her love for contemplating nature, especially sunsets, her joie de vivre and her love for Indian chanting and dancing. She made friends easily and won people’s confidence quickly with her great simplicity and unconquerable peace.

For many years Annie worked as a Secretary at l’Hôpital Sainte Justine in the Payroll Department. She was well known for her meticulous work and her welcoming manner.

A Cradle Catholic, Annie had a growing thirst for God all her life. In 1957, she discovers Opus Dei, which was unknown in Canada at the time. After making inquiries at the Archdiocese of Montreal, Annie is given a Latin document explaining Opus Dei. She doggedly translates the document and thus discovers her vocation as an associate member of Opus Dei. Annie is the first Canadian woman to join this international Catholic institution and to be faithful to the end of her life on earth.
